Forever Friends

Nothing is more exciting to photograph for me than birthday festivities. At this particular shoot, the birthday girl was excited to officially turn 13! Becoming a teenager is a big birthday in my eyes, and her family felt the same way. They wanted to make their daughter's birthday extra special. To celebrate this milestone, she invited six of her best friends for a photoshoot at their home where the girls showed off their party dresses for the camera. They had a full night of fun ahead, as this kicked off a sleepover party - but this was no ordinary sleepover. We then traveled to the opulent Vinoy Park Hotel in downtown St. Petersburg, where the girls would spend the night, enjoy dinner at the hotel, the take a dip in the pool and chat the evening away. As one would expect, their energy was boundless, and at this age, they all love to pose for the camera! The surroundings were perfect for capturing the warmth of the girls' friendship, and I particularly enjoyed photographing them at the marina and just chilling out on the sea wall on the intercoastal waterway. The weather was just perfect for a girls' night out.

What would a teenage birthday be like without best friends to share it with? Not only was this a shoot for friends, but most importantly, a coming of age for the birthday girl. It makes me happy to know that some day she'll look back at these beautiful images. Hopefully she'll remember just how special her 13th birthday was and how thoughtful it was of her parents to capture these moments with professional photography. More and more, I see parents taking time to schedule shoots well before their children's traditional senior year photos. Your kids don't realize it, but time flies... and they will be grateful for these pictures as they grow up.
