How to prepare for your Photography session

You are having your pictures taken in Florida. It is your responsibility to manage sunburn. Additionally, we ask that you DO NOT use spray tan. Both of these situations require extensive retouching and there is no easy way to get it out.

If you show up to a session with self tanner or sunburn, you will be charged $35/Hour for the additional time in post production.

It is easier to give you a tan later than to correct blotchy skin

This is a general guide and helpful details for  how to prepare for your upcoming photography session.

This guideline is suitable for the following session types:

  • Family Sessions
  • Senior Portrait Sessions
  • Couple's, Engagement, & Elopement
  • Beach Photography Sessions

We have separate guides which can be found through these links for either: Fashion & Boudoir or Headshots & Branding

Wardrobe Planning

  • Start by looking at your own closet first for options you feel may make you look your best
  • You can consult with your photographer as well as look on Pinterest/Instagram for ideas (please share your ideas and vision with your photographer in advance of your session or have your photographer help guide you). It is IMPORTANT that you & your photographer have a clear vision of the style/look pre-planned for the session
  • We suggest layering items so that you can remove an item such as jackets or sweaters for a different look
  • Bring multiple accessories to help help complete your look (bracelets, necklaces, scarfs, earrings, hats, etc.)
  • If ordering clothes online, please make sure shipping dates are well in advance of your session to provide time to try on, make alterations, or find alternate options as needed.
  • All wardrobe options should be pressed & wrinkle free and ready to go prior to arrival.

Hair & Makeup

  • If using a hair & makeup artist, make sure to schedule 3-4 hours prior to your departure to session if not being done in our studio. Please be sure to allow for travel & traffic and be on time for your session, consult with your hair & makeup artist on approximate length of time to complete your look.
  • If you are planning an up do, make sure your hair is securely pinned in place
  • Avoid shimmer on face other than eyes
  • Please wear false eyelashes
  • Please be sure to communicate with both your photographer & makeup artist on look you are trying to accomplish (natural, dramatic, smoky eyes, big curls, etc.)
  • Bring an extra lipstick with you for lipstick touchups

OLD COPY

RELAX! Thiis is going to be fun

Your session will be relaxing, easy going and most importantly fun. The first part of the session will generally be focused on traditional seated or posed portraits if you chose to include them in your session. Once traditional portraits have been taken its time to laugh, get silly, twirl, fall in love all over again and enjoy the moment making beautiful memories together. For Children in the session we may take a break for a snack and a moment away from the camera to rejuvenate.

This is your time to shine and create those unique portraits you'll cherish forever.

Preparing for your session

The Night Before:

Get a good nights rest

Prepare your clothes

Prepare any props you will be using in your session

pack bottled water & Non staining snacks

For children please bring a change of clothes, baby wipes, tissues

The day of your session

Eat a full meal at least 1-1.5 hours prior to your session

Be sure to bring all of the things you prepared the night before

keep activities prior to your session light and stress free

enjoy your day, enjoy the moment, be yourself and smile.

What to Wear

Where to start

Its always best to start with your personal style. are you traditional, edgy, vintage? what clothes do your feel comfortable and confident in. whatever your personal style, i usually suggest that my clients go with a dress casual so you can be neat and tidy but still be playful and carefree.

Coordinating not matching

Pick a color palette with 3-4 colors to work with and select individual outfits within that color scheme. matching too much as in everyone wearing the same thing can date your portraits and take away variety in your images. many stores have clothing collections with a variety of clothes to choose from in the same color palette

Home Décor

Since you will most likely be displaying your images in your home, consider the color scheme and style of your home when selecting your clothing

All white, All Black clothing

All white clothing can easily get blown out and all black clothing can easily lose its texture in a photograph resulting in flat texture less images. it can also make everybody blend together, making it difficult to tell what's going on in your image.

Patterns and prints

Patterns are fantastic and fun but try to avoid too many. if you have too many patterns in your images it can too busy and you will get lost in the image. I always suggest avoiding all print, as in any type of images like cartoon characters, animals, and objects, when in doubt keep it clean and simple

Classic is always in style

By wearing simple, classic clothing, you enable your images to have a timeless feel. since these image will be hanging on your walls for years to come, you will be glad you did.

Added notes-

Minimize bags, pocket clutter and so on.  keep it simple to keep your images clean.

Beach Sessions-

Nowhere to change stick to single wardrobe

often windy so no short skirts. long dresses are good.
